Akira Kurosawa with Richard Gere on the set of RHAPSODY IN AUGUST
Criterion has never been able to get their hands on Kurosawa’s penultimate film (rights issues prevented it from being included in that massive AK100 box set), but it’s Saturday so I’ll let that slide. i can only imagine how insanely jarring it was for Richard Gere to work with Kurosawa on Rhapsody in August right on the heels of Pretty Woman… both have their value, but oh the places you’ll go…
