Martin Scorsese’s Chanel Commercial Pays Tribute to MISHIMA: A LIFE IN FOUR CHAPTERS
so i was watching the telly last night (more specifically, i was watching my beloved New York Rangers completely shame the Philadelphia Flyers) when i saw this ad for Chanel (more specifically, for Bleu de Chanel, a cologne that apparently smells like a potent mix between the color blue and buyer’s remorse).
anyway, at 0:22 there’s a flagrant reference to Paul Schrader’s MISHIMA: A LIFE IN FOUR CHAPTERS. not a particularly big deal, but neat and kind of unexpected… here’s the Mishima shot the Chanel ad quotes (folks familiar with the film will note that the reference is super-duper obvious):

UPDATE: so, um, this commercial was directed by someone named “Martin Scorsese.” who i’m told is somewhat familiar with Paul Schrader. so… yeah, that explains a lot. you can see the entire short film / ad here, but you really don’t have to.
